This site trys to provide information on both the way the body works and how hormones impact it, in simple and understandable terms to help all trans people be better educated on their own healthcare. This allows them to have a more informed conversation with their doctor about their own care as well as to ensures that they know when they are being provided substandard care so that they can better advocate for themselves.
We need this because in most places in the world our doctors (general practitioners, primary care physicians, family doctors) don't have much time to talk with and explain things to patients. This often works out for simple acute problems where solutions are simple and once off, but it breaks down for more complex and long term health care needs. Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is one such need.
Doctors are often not taught anything about trans health care during medical school and must learn it themselves. Their knowledge might also be dated and no longer current with the latest best practices. Given the history of discrimination in trans health care, out dated care might not only be suboptimal but also gate kept and not actually in the best interests of the patient. The science behind trans healthcare is often sparse as well. So along with the above, it combines with the historic way in which care was gate kept to protect the doctor from lawsuits and therefore only provided in the most conservative manner.
